Pete before Rural Water

When I was pretty young, my grandfather did not have drinkable water in his house.  He had running water, but it was pumped from a pond.  Since this was in the days before good filters were available, they didn't drink it.

For drinking water, he went everyday to the old "Zimp" place and pumped water from an old well that was still on the property.  Man that water was good.  Even in the hottest days of summer, the water was clear and COLD.

In his kitchen, there was a small table in the corner.  On that table, there was an old galvanized bucket.  That is where the drinking water was.  You went over to that bucket and ladled water into your glass.

I'll never forget the trips to get water or that bucket.
